How to Get Here

Drive
From Victoria (about 4 hours)

  •  North on Highway #1.
  •  Take the exit to Lake Cowichan, just North of Duncan.
  •  Past Lake Cowichan, enter a network of gravel roads (~120 km).
  •  Roads are marked, and should be no trouble. Follow the power lines.
  •  Make sure you have a spare tire and lots of gas.

 From Nanaimo (about 4 hours) 

  •  Head north on the Island Highway #19
  •  Take the exit to Port Alberni: Highway#4.
  •  As you arrive in Port Alberni, take left-hand exit to Bamfield.
  •  Follow signs to Bamfield. From Port Alberni, should take 1.5 hours.
  •  ~77 km is gravel road. Road is in good shape. Make sure you have a spare tire and lots of gas.
  • The road from Port Alberni to Bamfield is managed by Western Forest Products.

Fly
Several companies offer charter flights to Bamfield, and recommend the following depending on where you are flying from.

Bus
The West Coast Trail Express leaves Victoria and stops in Nanaimo on a daily basis, going to Bamfield.
